Students will be exposed to a variety of genres throughout our Storytown series.  Each week we will focus on one short story with a specific set of vocabulary words.  We will discuss a focus skill to guide our comprehension.  We will finish each week with an assessment.  Students may take their Storytown books home with them for extra practice.

Fourth graders will spend the majority of their time perfecting their personal narrative skills.  In late January or early February students will complete the Nebraska State Writing Assessment.   In order to pass this assessment students will need to zoom in their writing, use related details, specific vocabulary and use proper conventions.  We will practice this writing daily in the classroom in order to prepare each student for this important assessment.

Students will be exposed to a variety of skills in our Math Expressions curriculum.  Some of the big topics include place value through the millions, multi-digit subtraction, multi-digit addition, multi-digit multiplication, geometry, fractions and long division.

During math instruction I will teach a whole group lesson and then divide the class into three smaller groups for a guided math lesson.  This allows students time to work in a smaller setting and get more individualized instruction.  In order for students to be successful in math they need to have a strong sense of their basic math facts.  Please make sure to practice these facts daily in order to assure continued success.

Nebraska History:

Mrs. Hackett will be teaching Nebraska History to all 4th grade students.  Students will learn about early Nebraska settlers, Native Americans and the history of our state capital.  At the end of 4th grade students will enjoy an unforgettable field trip to Lincoln, Nebraska where they will get a first hand look at all the wonderful things they have been taught.

I will be teaching Science to all 4th grade students.  Each student will be given their own textbook to write notes in and take home with them.  In 4th grade we will cover energy, electricity, the solar system and much more!  Students will be assigned homework after each lesson.  Please check their assignment notebooks for specific assignment information.

Students will be given their spelling list at the beginning of every week.  They will be required to complete three spelling activities using their tic-tac-toe boards.  These assignments will be due on Friday or the last day of the regular school week.  Students will take their spelling test on Fridays.
